Rooted in lineage: The birth of a movement
The Voices Of Women was born from the rich soil of the Pee Dee region of South Carolina and the Alabama Black Belt, steeped in the deep-rooted legacy of Black women whose names resonate through generations. It began as a calling to honor foremothers whose stories were often overlooked, growing into a powerful movement for healing, remembrance, empowerment, and leadership. Today, it stands as a living testament: when a Black woman rises, she becomes unstoppable; and when she builds a movement from that rise, she becomes an undeniable force.

Essie’s origin story: A spiritual calling
Essie’s story is deeply rooted in the resilience of her lineage from the Pee Dee region of South Carolina, the Alabama Black Belt, and Georgia—lands shaped by survival and the brilliance of Black women. Raised within this powerful legacy, Essie carries their stories as a sacred fire. Her work is a continuation of this heritage. The Voice of Women emerged from a spiritual calling—a whisper that transformed into a roar. Essie recognized the void of erased foremothers and the silence surrounding Black women’s narratives, igniting a hunger for spaces where women could rise unapologetically. What began as a personal awakening blossomed into a movement, a cultural engine, and a ceremonial home for truth, healing, and leadership.

Rising from adversity: A personal journey
My story is one of profound resilience—a woman who rose repeatedly after being knocked down. The pressure was immense; I had lost sight of my identity. The death of my sister, who willed her ten-year-old son to me, forced me to fight to maintain a one-sided marriage and endure a hostile, stressful work environment. I realized I had to find a path to fully step into the light, leaving behind the weight of decades of struggles, surviving betrayals, enduring medical crises, raising a child amidst grief, rebuilding my mind, and reclaiming my spirit. This journey forged the very essence of The Voices Of Women, LLC.
“I created the voice of women because I refused to let our stories disappear. I refused to let our brilliance be dimmed. I refused to let our daughters grow up without knowing the power they come from. This movement is my offering — to my foremothers, to my sisters, and to every woman who is ready to rise.”
